MK parliamentarian faces sanction over farm attack post
Andile Mngxitama's social media comments on a farm attack prompt calls for investigation by the SAHRC and parliament's ethics committee.
Political parties plan to have uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party parliamentarian Andile Mngxitama sanctioned for a social media post about a farm attack near Ventersdorp. Mngxitama, formerly of the Black First, Land First movement, posted his assessment of the attack on Donovan Marx, who was allegedly stabbed, shot, and had his ears severed on 28 October.
Mngxitama posted on X that attacking ears symbolised a refusal to listen to land issues and stated, "Farm life is overdetermined by systematic violence. Blacks got killed and fed to pigs." The post was later deleted, but screenshots circulated. The Freedom Front Plus (FF+) and the DA have stated they will ask the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) to investigate hate speech violations.
FF+ parliamentarian Heloïse Denner said the party would also lodge a complaint with parliament’s ethics committee, calling Mngxitama's remarks "blatant hate speech" and stating he "does not belong in parliament." Police arrested five suspects aged between 26 and 56 in connection with the attack on Marx, seizing firearms and clothing. The suspects are due in court on Tuesday.
