South Africa launches new insecticide for potato moths
Syngenta’s SILVALIS®, powered by PLINAZOLIN® technology, offers a new mode of action for crop protection.
Syngenta South Africa has launched SILVALIS®, the nation's first registered IRAC Group 30 insecticide, to combat the destructive potato tuber moth. This new product, powered by PLINAZOLIN® technology, introduces a novel mode of action to South African agriculture, providing potato growers with a new tool against a challenging pest.
The insecticide is registered for controlling the potato tuber moth (Phthorimaea operculella), which can cause up to 100% crop loss by damaging leaves, stems, and tubers in fields and storage. Sarike le Roux, Syngenta’s Head of Marketing, stated the product reflects the company's aim to turn science into practical breakthroughs for farmers.
SILVALIS® contains the active ingredient isocycloseram and was developed over the past 10 years. Chris Steyn, Syngenta’s Portfolio Manager Insect Control, noted that grower feedback has exceeded predictions and trials, offering new chemistry for integrated pest management programmes.
