Zimbabwe shares HIV funding model with Tanzania

The AIDS Levy is highlighted as a key mechanism for mobilising local resources for HIV programmes.

Zimbabwe shared its domestic financing model for HIV and AIDS response with a visiting Tanzanian delegation in Harare on Monday. The AIDS Levy, known as the National AIDS Trust Fund, was highlighted as a key mechanism for mobilising local resources to sustain HIV treatment, prevention, and care programmes.

Health and Child Care minister Douglas Mombeshora stated that the AIDS Levy has enabled Zimbabwe to take greater responsibility for financing its national HIV priorities amidst changing global health financing arrangements. He told the Tanzanian delegation that sustainable HIV programmes require national ownership, predictable domestic financing, strong institutions, and effective partnerships.

The exchange visit focused on sharing best practices in HIV response financing. Zimbabwe's model aims to ensure continued support for national HIV priorities through local resource mobilisation.

Why it mattersZimbabwean citizens and health programs are directly affected by the domestic financing model for HIV and AIDS response.
