Angolan opposition forms civic monitoring platform

Four political parties and two civil society groups created a joint platform to oversee the 2027 general elections.

Four Angolan political parties, Bloco Democrático (BD), PDP-ANA, PNSA, and PPA, have joined forces with disability and civil society groups FAPED and MUDEI to form a Joint Civic Monitoring Platform. The platform was established following a National Conference on the Electoral Process (CNPE 2026) held in Luanda, which gathered over 300 representatives from civil society and human rights organizations.

The CNPE 2026, promoted by the parties and their partners, aimed to gather proposals for the integrity of Angola's electoral process. The conference concluded with a commitment to make the CNPE a permanent mechanism for operational actions defending popular sovereignty. The new platform will work alongside a technical guidance manual for the 2027 general elections.

The platform's conclusions include a Charter of Recommendations for Electoral Transparency and a White Paper on the Electoral Process in Angola. Signatories demand the National Electoral Commission (CNE) strictly adhere to directives on vote counting, data integrity, and accessibility for people with disabilities, and require the Ministry of Territorial Administration (MAT) to ensure access to public service centers for voter registration.

Why it mattersAngolan citizens, particularly those with disabilities, will have their access to voting and the integrity of the 2027 general elections monitored by a new civic platform.
