Katlego Twala wins Tokyo art award
Botswana artist Katlego C.L. Twala receives Sponsor Award at inaugural TTC African Art Award in Tokyo.
Botswana artist Katlego C.L. Twala has won the Sponsor Award at the first Toyota Tsusho Corporation (TTC) African Art Award ceremony held in Tokyo, Japan.
The award recognises Twala's artistic excellence and her work connecting African perspectives with the global art scene. She was among several young African artists from countries including Botswana, South Africa, and Zimbabwe who exhibited their work in Tokyo.
TTC established the award to support artists across Africa and provide a platform for them to showcase their creations in Japan. Twala previously won the New Emergence Art Prize in 2024 and had a sold-out solo booth at Latitudes Art Fair in 2025.
