Republic of Congo seeks UN Security Council seat

President Sassou N'Guesso asked African leaders to back the country's bid for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council for 2030-2031.

President Denis Sassou N’Guesso has asked fellow African leaders to support the Republic of Congo's bid for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for the 2030-2031 term. He made this appeal during the third Russia-Africa summit in Moscow on October 28 and 29.

Sassou N’Guesso stated that African support would strengthen the continent's voice within the UN body responsible for international peace and security. He highlighted global challenges such as geopolitical tensions, terrorism, climate change, and armed conflicts as reasons for increased African representation.

The Congolese president emphasized his country's commitment to dialogue, mediation, and peaceful dispute resolution as its diplomatic stance for the Security Council seat. Brazzaville aims to leverage this approach if successful in its bid.
