ICRISAT promotes soil health solutions in Southern Ethiopia
Farmer field days from November 4 to 6, 2026, showcase digital tools and science-based practices.
The International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) and Ethiopia’s Ministry of Agriculture are holding farmer field days in Southern Ethiopia from November 4 to 6, 2026. These events aim to promote innovative and cost-effective soil health and fertilizer management solutions to farming communities.
Development partners including Precision Development, People In Need, and Self Help Africa are collaborating to raise awareness about practical methods to improve agricultural productivity and lower production costs. Farmers are learning about science-based soil fertility management, appropriate fertilizer application, and improved crop production through demonstrations and knowledge sharing.
A key innovation featured is the AFER_LERSHA (Soil for Farm) Telegram Bot, a digital advisory tool offering tailored fertilizer recommendations. This digital service bridges research and practice, enabling farmers to make informed decisions, optimize fertilizer use, and achieve better yields at reduced costs.
