Gabon politician demands former PM's release
Francis Hubert Aubame criticizes the silence of the judiciary on the detention of Alain-Claude Bilie-By-Nze.
Francis Hubert Aubame, president of the PSE-PP party, is demanding the immediate and unconditional release of former Prime Minister Alain-Claude Bilie-By-Nze, who has been detained since April 17. Aubame published a statement on October 24, criticizing the Superior Council of the Magistracy (CSM) for its silence on the case and calling for the government to act on its reform promises.
Aubame highlighted concerns over access to the case file, delays in the investigation, and the contested grounds for Bilie-By-Nze's preventive detention. He questioned why the CSM, responsible for overseeing the judiciary, has not publicly addressed these issues, especially given the institution's stated commitment to a diligent and impartial justice system. The CSM met in Port-Gentil on September 16.
The PSE-PP leader insists that a person's liberty should not be held up by prolonged discussions. He is calling for concrete actions to demonstrate consistency between institutional commitments and the handling of sensitive judicial matters in Gabon.
Why it mattersFrancis Hubert Aubame and Alain-Claude Bilie-By-Nze are directly affected by the ongoing detention and the political criticism of the judicial process.
