Four remanded over Worawora disturbances
Kwame Aboagye Ahenkora, Prince Asante, Daniel Wiafe, and Kwabena Nsimbo were detained following violence over festival rites.
The Dambai Circuit Court has remanded four individuals into police custody for their alleged role in disturbances at Dwabrem-Worawora in the Oti Region. Kwame Aboagye Ahenkora, 55, Prince Asante, 27, Daniel Wiafe, 20, and Kwabena Nsimbo, 22, are accused of involvement in the events that occurred on October 24, 2026.
The disturbances reportedly involved the burning of vehicle tyres amid claims of a High Court injunction against the Akwantutenten Festival rites, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police John Nchor. Police personnel extinguished fires and restored order, and the Oti Regional Security Council has directed disputing parties to seek resolution through the courts and Houses of Chiefs.
The accused will reappear before the court on November 17, 2026, as the Regional Police Command appeals for calm and respect for lawful processes. The Regional Security Council stressed that the chieftaincy dispute must be resolved through legal means.
