Gambia reaffirms UN Charter principles
Vice President Jallow called for stronger partnerships to advance global peace and human rights at UN Day.
Vice President Mohammed B.S. Jallow stated on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, that The Gambia remains committed to the UN Charter's principles. Speaking at the 81st United Nations Day celebration in Bijilo, he emphasized the need for international cooperation to tackle global challenges.
The event, themed “Restoring Trust, Managing Transformation: A United Nations That Delivers for All,” saw VP Jallow commend the UN Country Team for supporting The Gambia’s National Development Plan, ‘YIRIWA’ 2023–2027. He stressed that restoring trust requires transparency and accountability for tangible improvements in people’s lives.
UN Resident Coordinator Karl Frédérick Paul noted that while trust is tested globally, commitment to multilateralism should not waver. He referenced conflicts in Sudan, Gaza, and Ukraine, where civilians suffer from peace failures and climate disruption.
