Kenya discharges six Ebola patients
The country has recorded 18 days without a new infection, with one patient remaining under treatment.
Kenya has discharged six Ebola patients, bringing the total number of recoveries to six out of nine confirmed cases since the outbreak began on October 6, 2026. The Ministry of Health announced on November 6 that the last of these six patients tested negative, leaving only one person still receiving treatment. This marks 18 consecutive days without any new infections recorded.
Director-General for Health Dr. Patrick Amoth stated that all nine confirmed cases were linked to a single transmission chain, with no new infections reported since October 19, 2026. He attributed the progress to early detection, isolation, treatment, contact tracing, and safe burial practices. 66 contacts have completed their 21-day monitoring period, and 52 more are expected to finish by November 11.
Kenya must observe a 42-day countdown after the final patient's discharge before officially declaring the outbreak over. Screening continues at 26 entry points, where over 760,000 travellers have been checked. Emergency operations centres and rapid response teams remain on alert, and the Ministry urges citizens to seek immediate medical attention for symptoms like fever and bleeding.
