Kipchimchim Group opens green tea factory in Nandi

The Sangalo Green Tea Factory will process over 70,000kg of green leaf daily for premium international markets.

Kipchimchim Group has opened the Sangalo Green Tea Factory in Nandi County, Kenya, dedicated to processing green orthodox tea. The factory, operated by the group's Tea Division, can process more than 70,000kg of green leaf each day. This new facility expands Kipchimchim's production beyond black CTC and black orthodox teas to target international demand for specialty green tea.

The company stated that the Sangalo factory will allow African tea to compete internationally based on quality. It will also provide smallholder farmers supplying green leaf direct access to premium specialty tea buyers. Kipchimchim Group expects this development to improve farmer returns by connecting them to higher-value markets for specialty tea.

Sangalo is projected to create direct technical jobs at the factory and indirect employment in the agricultural sector. The investment aims to support socio-economic development and infrastructure in nearby communities. Kipchimchim Group, founded in 1999 and based in Kericho, supports approximately 54,000 smallholder tea farmers.

Why it mattersSmallholder outgrowers supplying green leaf will have direct access to premium specialty tea buyers, improving their returns.
