Liberian economist Jackson seeks travel for medical treatment
Samuel Jackson, facing charges in his wife's death, asked a court for permission to leave Liberia for medical care.
Liberian economist Samuel Jackson appealed to Criminal Court “A” for permission to travel abroad for medical treatment on October 22, 2026. Jackson, who is facing charges in connection with his wife Ntombi Khumalo Jackson’s March 2026 death, cited deteriorating health. He was seen struggling to walk at the Temple of Justice in Monrovia.
Jackson is seeking specialized medical care outside Liberia but remains barred from leaving the country due to ongoing legal proceedings. His wife, a South African attorney, was found dead in their Monrovia home with reports of severe head injuries. Jackson maintains her injuries resulted from an accidental fall.
The economist was released in April on a US$20,000 bond with travel restrictions and mandatory court check-ins. He has accused the prosecution of being politically motivated to silence his criticism of President Joseph Boakai’s administration. Authorities have not yet released the official autopsy findings.
