Madagascar grandmother sentenced to life for murder

The Anosy court sentenced Raissa's grandmother to life imprisonment with forced labor for her murder.

The Anosy Criminal Court sentenced Raissa's grandmother to life imprisonment with forced labor for the murder of the 8-year-old girl. One of her cousins received a 10-year prison sentence for his role in the crime. The court delivered its verdict yesterday, more than a year after the girl's disappearance.

Raissa's body was discovered on May 11, 2025, in a bag near her home in Antohomadinika IVO, a day after she was reported missing. A message on the family's gate read, "Vengeance is accomplished, but we still have two to kill…". The trial involved the victim's grandmother, her cousin, and another boy.

The court's decision follows investigations into the tragic events of May 2025. The grandmother was found guilty, and her cousin was also convicted. The case has been before the Anosy criminal jurisdiction since the discovery of the child's body.
