European Union gives Mauritania 20 million euros for surveillance

The funds will provide non-military equipment to boost the army's territorial monitoring capabilities.

The European Union has increased its military aid to Mauritania by 20 million euros, bringing the total to 75 million euros. This new funding will provide non-military equipment to enhance the army's territorial surveillance capacity. The EU Council stated this fourth program under the European Peace Facility will supply additional ground surveillance equipment to the Mauritanian armed forces.

This aid aims to support the Mauritanian army's ability to monitor situations across the country. The EU Council said the assistance contributes to regional stability in the Sahel and reduces destabilization risks. It also seeks to protect Mauritania's sovereignty, territorial integrity, and civilian population security.

Previous European aid programs included military equipment and capabilities for land and maritime operations. These focused on surveillance and deterrence.
