Mauritius unionists march on cost of living

Workers in Port-Louis protested rising prices, poor working conditions, and water shortages.

A peaceful march organised by the Platform Komin Syndikal took place in Port-Louis on Saturday afternoon. The protest focused on the high cost of living, difficult working conditions, water supply problems, and industrial relations tensions in several sectors.

Union leaders spoke at the march, which ended at the Jardin de la Compagnie. They denounced the expensive cost of living, the falling value of the Mauritian rupee, the use of foreign labour, and changes to the pension reform.

Speakers urged workers to remain mobilised and continue their collective struggle.
