RSF drones hit Sudan electricity network
Rapid Support Forces drone attacks have knocked out power stations from eastern Sudan to Khartoum.
Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF) launched drone attacks on electricity stations across several states since Monday, leaving army-controlled areas without power. The strikes damaged transformers, transmission equipment, and fuel installations from eastern Sudan to Khartoum. The bombardment began with attacks on five electricity stations in Al-Jazirah, Al-Qadarif, Sennar, and White Nile states, followed by strikes on the Al Markhiyat substation northwest of Omdurman.
The Sudan Electricity Holding Company stated that the RSF carried out "treacherous terrorist attacks" using drones, targeting vital substations including Singa, Al-Hawata, Al-Faw, Mashkur, and Al-Geneid in Al-Jazirah State. These attacks caused extensive damage and widespread destruction, resulting in a complete blackout across the southeastern electricity grid and power outages in Sennar, Al-Qadarif, White Nile, and Al-Jazirah states.
The attacks, which reached installations hundreds of kilometers from RSF ground positions, pose a direct threat to the national electricity grid's stability. Drones also struck the Al Junaid transformer station near a sugar factory in eastern Al Jazirah State on October 26, disabling the station and interrupting electricity supplies to the surrounding area.
Why it mattersThe RSF drone attacks have disrupted electricity across multiple states in Sudan, affecting power supply to cities and agricultural communities.
