Senegalese teacher arrested for visa scam

Police in Mbacké apprehended a Dakar school supervisor accused of defrauding clients of over 25 million CFA francs.

A school supervisor from a well-known Dakar college, identified as C.Y.T., was arrested in Mbacké on Friday. He is accused of defrauding at least 11 individuals of over 25 million CFA francs in a visa scam. The police apprehended him at the Iba Guèye stadium while he was attending a football match.

The accused allegedly worked as a client recruiter for a group of four, including a Malian marabout who has reportedly fled with the money and two Nigerians not residing in Senegal. C.Y.T. had previously been detained in February for fictitious Spanish work contracts but was released. He sought refuge in Mbacké at his family home after abandoning his teaching post.

Nine of the 11 complainants, all from Dakar, have reported the incident to investigators. The suspect had changed his phone number to avoid detection. This arrest follows a tip-off from Dakar police to their Mbacké counterparts.
