Juba City Council digitizes revenue collection

The council arrested 32 employees and launched a public website to improve financial transparency.

Juba City Council has launched a new digital financial payment system and a public website to improve transparency in revenue collection and fund management. Caretaker Mayor Christopher Sarafino Wani Swaka announced on Friday that the council has migrated all revenue operations from manual forms to a digitized system over the past 10 days.

Investigations uncovered financial malpractices, with Mayor Swaka stating that 50 percent of the council’s resources were lost. This led to the arrest of 32 revenue collectors who are facing disciplinary action, including potential dismissal. The reforms follow complaints from residents and business owners about the transparency of taxes and fees.

The council also launched a website, www.jccgov.ss, to provide public access to information like the annual budget and tax schedules. Mayor Swaka said this aims to address public uncertainty about fees and improve communication between the city and its residents.

Why it mattersSouth Sudanese residents and business owners will have clearer information on taxes and fees collected by Juba City Council.
