Eswatini calls for regional action on supply chain woes

The kingdom's foreign minister urged stronger cooperation to counter rising costs and trade disruptions affecting COMESA nations.

Eswatini's Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Pholile Shakantu, has called for enhanced regional collaboration to address the impact of global supply chain disruptions. Speaking at the 21st COMESA Meeting of Ministers of Foreign Affairs in Harare, Zimbabwe, Shakantu highlighted how these issues are driving up the cost of living through increased fuel and shipping expenses, and delays in essential goods movement.

Shakantu emphasised that the consequences of these disruptions extend beyond trade, posing significant risks to economic stability, food security, and the general welfare of citizens across the COMESA region. The meeting also reviewed the regional peace and security situation, acknowledging its critical role in fostering economic development and shared prosperity.

The ministers recognised that collective action and sustained collaboration are necessary to tackle the region's challenges. Strengthening regional partnerships, they concluded, will better equip COMESA member states to safeguard their economies, support vulnerable populations, and promote a more stable and prosperous future for all.
