Eswatini theatre vice-chair speaks at Johannesburg music event

Sizo Hlophe will address a cultural policy summit and a main conference panel at the ACCES event, focusing on music industry growth.

Sizo Hlophe, Vice-Chairperson of the Eswatini Theatre Club, is set to speak at the ACCES event in Johannesburg, a major pan-African music industry gathering. Hlophe, who is also involved in rejuvenating Eswatini’s oldest theatre, will participate in two sessions. His first appearance will be at a cultural policy summit focused on promoting fair culture and exchange in the performing arts, bringing together global leaders to connect policy with practical work.

Hlophe's involvement stems from his experience as an ecosystem builder and co-founder of Antidote Music and Antidote Culture Foundation, organizations that have worked to bring local music online and develop cultural programs. He has supported initiatives like the Music Cities Convention since 2023, aiming to strengthen music ecosystems globally. His work aligns with UNESCO conventions on the status of the artist and the promotion of cultural diversity.

In addition to the policy summit, Hlophe will join an international panel at the main ACCES conference. This session, moderated by Keith Kuhudzai from Kay Media, will explore how communities and independent music businesses can build sustainable international careers, focusing on developing artists and cultural organizations from smaller markets. Hlophe believes a collaborative ecosystem is crucial for industry advancement and creative growth.

Why it mattersEswatini's creative sector and its professionals are affected by gaining international exposure and insights into strengthening music ecosystems and cultural policy.
