Chad faces rising deaths amid health crisis

Hospitals overflow and funerals increase as authorities report only 14 deaths.

Chad is experiencing an alarming health situation with multiplying deaths and overflowing hospitals in N’Djamena and the provinces. The Ministry of Health reported 14 deaths as of October 26, a figure that contrasts sharply with daily observations of widespread illness and funerals.

The rainy season has brought malaria, compounded this year by dengue fever, leading to overwhelmed health centers and pharmacies. In some facilities, patients lie on the floor due to lack of space. Daily burials at major cemeteries are estimated between 50 and 80, according to cemetery agents.

On Friday, October 30, 26 bodies were presented for funeral prayers at the Markaz mosque in N’Djamena alone. This situation highlights a significant discrepancy between official figures and the reality on the ground, with many deaths likely occurring undiagnosed at home.
