Togo football coach faces media group demands

The MMLK movement demands public apologies from Patrice Neveu for his conduct towards a journalist.

The Mouvement Martin Luther King (MMLK) in Togo has condemned the behavior of national football team coach Patrice Neveu towards journalist Espoir Gato of Nana FM. The incident occurred during a press conference on November 3 at Kégué stadium in Lomé.

The MMLK, led by Pastor Edoh K. Komi, stated on November 4 that no journalist should face intimidation for asking questions, even if they are difficult. The organisation demands Neveu issue a public and personal apology within 48 hours to the journalist, the Togolese press, and the Togolese people.

The movement also called on the Togolese Football Federation (FTF) to ensure the safety of media professionals at press conferences. While acknowledging the FTF president's regrets, the MMLK insists these do not absolve the coach from offering his own apology.

Why it mattersThe MMLK movement is demanding accountability from the national football coach for his treatment of a journalist, affecting media professionals.
