Tunisia joins global soil science decade

The nation participates in a UN-backed initiative to improve soil health for food security by 2034.

Tunisia is participating in the global Soil Science Decade, running from 2025 to 2034, with the theme 'Healthy soils for humanity'. This initiative aims to foster the creation and sharing of practical scientific knowledge to enhance agricultural performance and ensure food security by 2050.

The plan for the decade includes strategic publications like books and policy briefs, alongside events such as webinars and conferences. The recent World Food Day celebration on October 16, under the FAO's guidance, provided an occasion to advance these goals.

The focus on pedology, the study of soil, supports the sharing of scientific knowledge to address immediate needs while planning for future food security.

Why it mattersTunisian farmers will benefit from improved soil science knowledge to boost agricultural performance and food security.
