Kadogosa orders construction equipment returned

Tanzania's Minister of Works ordered contractors to keep equipment on project sites.

Tanzania's Minister of Works, Masanja Kadogosa, ordered the return of construction equipment to project sites in Shinyanga region. This directive, issued in October 2026, aims to ensure projects proceed quickly and finish on time. Minister Kadogosa stated that contractors moving equipment between projects to meet initial payment requirements, known as 'Mobilization', causes delays and unnecessary costs for the government.

The order is being implemented on the 7.3-kilometer Iringa Bypass road construction project. As of October 29, 2026, the contractor had returned 41 of the 65 required machines. The Tanzania Roads Agency (TANROADS) met with the contractor on October 30, 2026, to emphasize the need to resume work immediately after returning the equipment.

This action ensures necessary machinery remains at project locations, speeding up work and preventing delays. The goal is to complete projects according to contract timelines. The minister's directive addresses concerns about contractors relocating equipment to satisfy initial payment terms, which can disrupt project schedules and lead to extra transport expenses.
