Tanzania seeks AfDB funding for new power line

The government discussed financing for a 400kV transmission line from Kisongo to Segera with the African Development Bank.

The Tanzanian government, through the Ministry of Energy and TANESCO, met with the African Development Bank (AfDB) in Dodoma to discuss financing for energy projects. Key among these is a proposed 400-kilovolt (400kV) power transmission line stretching from Kisongo through Same to Segera.

Commissioner for Electricity and Renewable Energy, Engineer Innocent Luoga, chaired the talks, emphasizing the need to expand transmission infrastructure to meet rising energy demand. The project aims to strengthen the national power system, increase transmission capacity, and ensure reliable electricity for homes and businesses, particularly in Arusha and Tanga regions.

Discussions also covered expanding the Lemugur power substation in Arusha and building new substations in Same and Segera. The meeting explored financing arrangements and implementation preparations for these initiatives.
