Ex-Idac head Johnson and ex-Crime Intelligence Khan granted bail

The Pretoria Magistrate’s Court granted bail to Andrea Johnson and Feroz Khan on charges of defeating the ends of justice.

Former Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (Idac) head Advocate Andrea Johnson and ex-deputy head of Crime Intelligence Feroz Khan were granted R10 000 bail each by the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Friday. They face charges of defeating the ends of justice and assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm, with Johnson also charged for contravening the National Prosecuting Authority Act.

Police arrested Johnson and Khan on Friday morning in connection with allegations that Johnson gave Khan information about a case authorities had opened against him. Crime Intelligence Officer Manana Leonora Phetlhe had opened a case of harassment and assault against Khan in June 2018, alleging he physically attacked her with a pen and his hands, causing injuries. Former Hawks colonel Kobus Roelofse told the Madlanga commission on 10 July 2026 that Johnson compromised the criminal investigation by improperly involving herself.

The state alleges that Johnson, without permission, disclosed information to Khan, and they acted in common purpose to hinder prosecution against Khan. This prompted an investigation into how Khan submitted a warning statement before the National Prosecuting Authority received the docket. The Commission’s Recommendation Task Team (CRTT) arrested the duo following allegations before the Madlanga commission. The state did not oppose bail, stating the offences fall under Schedule 1.
