South Africa cuts fuel prices ahead of elections
Diesel prices to fall by over R1.60 per litre and petrol by up to 49c/l due to government levy reductions.
South African motorists will see lower fuel prices in November, with diesel potentially dropping by more than R1.60 per litre and petrol prices also decreasing. The government announced a temporary R1.50 per litre reduction for petrol and R3.00 per litre for diesel on the general fuel levy for November. These changes are part of a R10 billion relief package aimed at easing consumer pressure.
Indicative inland prices show diesel 0.005% could fall by R1.68 per litre and diesel 0.05% by R1.58 per litre. Petrol 95 may decrease by 49c per litre, and petrol 93 by 33c per litre. These figures are projections based on Central Energy Fund (CEF) data from October 29 and government relief measures.
The final pump prices will depend on international market movements, the rand's value against the US dollar, and other fuel pricing factors. Rising oil prices to around $115 per barrel and the rand trading at R16.50 to the dollar could erode these projected savings. The new prices are scheduled to take effect on November 3.
