Children filmed drinking beer taken to hospital
Family Support Unit intervenes after social media video shows minors consuming alcohol.
Mauritian authorities took children home after they were filmed drinking beer and brought them to the hospital for medical checks. The Family Support Unit of the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family Welfare intervened following the circulation of images on social media showing the minors consuming alcohol under the amused gaze of adults.
The ministry has opened an investigation into the incident to understand the circumstances and assess the situation of the children. This intervention is particularly sensitive as the family has prior history with the ministry, with three children previously removed from their home in 2025 before being reintegrated in December of that year after a family support program.
Medical examinations will determine the children's health status, while authorities work to establish how the video was made and what measures are needed to ensure their safety and well-being. The video is believed to be recent, and the family was already known to the ministry's services.
