Republic of Congo adopts preschool standards

A national guide aims to harmonize teaching practices and improve care for children aged 3 to 5.

The Republic of Congo adopted a national guide on November 6 in Brazzaville to standardize preschool teaching and enhance the quality of care for children aged 3 to 5. This technical framework outlines six domains and 16 minimum standards for early childhood facilities.

Régine Tchicaya Oboa, cabinet director for the Minister of Preschool, Primary, Secondary Education, and Literacy, stressed the need for collective action to implement the new standards. The guide is intended to help facilities assess their compliance, identify shortcomings, and apply corrective measures.

The guide also offers specific pedagogical orientations for preschools to better support young children's development and learning needs. The next challenge is ensuring the guide's effective application on the ground to create suitable and secure learning environments.

Why it mattersPreschool children in the Republic of Congo will benefit from improved learning environments and care due to new national standards.
