Mutebile's son sues stepmother over estate and confinement

Duncan Mutebile accuses administrators of hiding assets and arranging his psychiatric confinement.

Duncan Tumusiime Mutebile has sued his stepmother, Betty Tumusiime Mutebile, and co-administrator David Kyomukama Mutebile, in the High Court’s Family Division in Kampala. He accuses them of concealing estate assets, transferring property without consent, and arranging his involuntary confinement in a psychiatric facility. The late Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebile, former Bank of Uganda Governor, left the estate now under dispute.

Duncan alleges the administrators hid commercial properties, shares in Garuga Properties Ltd, a matooke plantation, forestry land, and bank accounts. He claims estate assets were transferred to Betty Mutebile’s name without his consent. His attorneys also accuse the administrators of arranging his confinement at facilities like Hope and Beyond Rehabilitation Centre to prevent him from challenging estate decisions.

The administrators deny the claims, stating Duncan is not the biological son of the former governor and that he has bipolar affective disorder. Duncan’s attorneys dispute this, presenting a birth certificate and a psychiatric evaluation from Kira Health Centre IV dated September 24, 2026, which reportedly found his cognition intact. Police and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions are reviewing the confinement allegations.

Why it mattersDuncan Mutebile is affected by alleged concealment of his father's estate assets and his own involuntary confinement.
